Collection: Swiss TAZ 83 Alpenflage CAMO

The Swiss TAZ 83 Alpenflage CAMO is a distinctive camouflage pattern developed for the Swiss Armed Forces, introduced in the 1980s and officially known as TAZ 83 (short for "Tarnanzug 83", meaning "camouflage suit 83"). Designed for high-altitude alpine warfare, this pattern features a complex mix of red-brown, green, tan, black, and white, optimized for woodland and mountainous terrain. Unlike traditional military camouflage, Alpenflage includes small branch and leaf-like details, making it particularly effective at disrupting the human silhouette in Swiss forests and rocky environments. While it provided excellent concealment, the TAZ 83 uniform was bulky and expensive to produce, leading to its replacement by the simpler TAZ 90 pattern in the 1990s. Although Switzerland was the only country to officially adopt Alpenflage, similar multi-colored patterns have influenced camouflage designs in other European nations. The Swiss TAZ 83 Alpenflage CAMO available through CAMO HQ is inspired by this iconic Cold War-era design, preserving its bold aesthetic and historical significance while adapting it for commercial and non-military applications.
