Pattern History: Oak Leaf

Oak Leaf Camouflage, known in German as Eichenlaubmuster, was one of the most distinctive camouflage patterns developed by Nazi Germany during World War II. Introduced in 1942, it was designed specifically for the Waffen-SS and featured large, rounded leaf shapes that closely resembled the foliage of European oak forests. Produced in both Spring and Autumn color variations, the pattern allowed soldiers to adapt to changing seasonal environments while providing excellent concealment in wooded terrain. Unlike the angular German Army splinter patterns, Oak Leaf used organic shapes and layered color transitions to create a highly effective disruptive camouflage.

Issued on smocks, helmet covers, reversible uniforms, shelter halves, and other field equipment, Oak Leaf became one of the most recognizable Waffen-SS camouflage designs of the war.
