Welcome to the CAMO HQ Camouflage Encyclopedia
Share
Camouflage is more than a pattern. It is history, terrain, technology, identity, and survival woven into fabric. Every camouflage design tells a story about where it came from, who used it, what environment it was created for, and why it still matters today.
The CAMO HQ Camouflage Encyclopedia was created to preserve and share the history and heritage of camouflage, one pattern at a time. Our goal is to build a useful reference guide for collectors, veterans, outdoorsmen, military history enthusiasts, airsoft and paintball players, designers, and anyone who wants to better understand the patterns behind the products.
Why We Created This Guide
At CAMO HQ, we offer a wide range of camouflage-inspired apparel and accessories featuring historic, modern, rare, and custom camouflage patterns. Many customers recognize the look of a pattern but may not know its background, origin, or purpose.
This encyclopedia is designed to help answer those questions. Whether you are looking at M81 Woodland, Tiger Stripe, Rhodesian Brushstroke, Flecktarn, ERDL, DPM, Splittertarn, Sumpfmuster, MARPAT, or modern digital camouflage, each pattern has a story worth preserving.
What Each Camouflage Article Will Cover
Each article in the CAMO HQ Camouflage Encyclopedia will provide a clear and practical overview of a specific camouflage pattern, including:
- Country or region of origin
- Era of development and use
- Military, law enforcement, or civilian users
- Intended environment
- Colors and pattern characteristics
- Historical significance
- Related patterns and variants
- CAMO HQ products featuring the design
Camouflage as History
Some camouflage patterns were created for jungles, forests, deserts, mountains, snow, urban environments, or transitional terrain. Others became famous because of the units that wore them, the conflicts they appeared in, or the culture that grew around them.
Patterns such as Tiger Stripe are closely associated with Vietnam-era reconnaissance units and special operations history. M81 Woodland became one of the most recognizable camouflage patterns in the world. Flecktarn helped define modern German camouflage design. Rhodesian Brushstroke remains one of the most distinctive and widely discussed patterns among collectors and enthusiasts.
These designs are more than visual artwork. They represent problem-solving, adaptation, and the constant effort to blend human movement into the natural world.
From Battlefield to Everyday Wear
Today, camouflage has moved far beyond its original military purpose. It is worn by hunters, hikers, athletes, veterans, collectors, outdoor workers, airsoft players, paintball players, and people who simply appreciate the look and history of a pattern.
CAMO HQ products are not military-issued tactical gear. Our apparel is designed for lifestyle, athletic, outdoor, and everyday use while honoring the legacy of camouflage design.
