Collection: Rhodesian Brushstroke Transkei CAMO

Rhodesian Brushstroke Transkei CAMO was a unique brushstroke camouflage pattern developed for the military forces of Transkei, a former South African homeland (Bantustan) that existed from 1976 to 1994. Transkei, one of the first nominally independent Bantustans, maintained its own military and police forces, which were equipped with uniforms inspired by British and Rhodesian brushstroke camouflage designs. The Transkei variant featured bold, sweeping brushstroke patterns in shades of green, brown, and tan, optimized for concealment in the savanna, grasslands, and bushveld terrain of southern Africa. Similar brushstroke camouflages were used by South African special forces and paramilitary units, as well as in other Southern African nations like Rhodesia and Namibia. Following Transkei’s reintegration into South Africa in 1994, the pattern fell out of official use, but its distinctive design remains historically significant. The version of Rhodesian Brushstroke Transkei CAMO featured on CAMO HQ is inspired by this rare military adaptation, preserving its aesthetic while refining it for collectors, reenactors, and commercial applications.
