Collection: South African Transkei CAMO

The SADF Transkei CAMO is inspired by the camouflage pattern worn by security forces in the former Republic of Transkei, a nominally independent homeland established under South Africa’s apartheid-era policies. The Transkei Defence Force (TDF) and Transkei Police used distinct camouflage patterns adapted to the region’s savanna and bushveld environments, incorporating a mix of earthy browns, greens, and tans for effective concealment. While Transkei was not internationally recognized as an independent state, its security forces operated with support from the South African Defence Force (SADF), often using locally developed uniforms and equipment. Following Transkei’s reintegration into South Africa in 1994, its military and police forces were absorbed into the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and their unique camouflage patterns were phased out. The SADF Transkei CAMO available through CAMO HQ is inspired by this historic regional pattern, preserving its distinctive aesthetic while adapting it for commercial and non-military applications.
